Juicy white peach, mint and peanut oil, chamomile and ginger, a honey gloss too. This is flavour town, all the peach drizzled with honey, carries a lively cut of sweet lime acidity, a fine powdery texture, and finishes long with bold and juicy flavour, mint leaf and green melon. Surely this much flavour and interest can’t be a good thing in this modern world of bony and mild wines? Well drizzle me insensible, because I love it. 94 points. Gary Walsh, The Winefront Oct 2025

Voskèat  Translated from Armenian, the name of this variety means “golden berry”. Some of the Voskeat vines in Armenia are more than 150 years old and still bear fruit.

Garandmak is a popular, indigenous Armenian white grape variety known for its hardy nature, greenish-yellow berries, and use in making versatile wines, often blended with other local grapes like Voskeat, producing rich, textured whites with stone fruit and nutty notes, especially from high-altitude regions like Vayots Dzor. The name means "fat tail," resembling a lamb's tail, and it's used for dry, semi-dry, sweet wines, and Armenian brandy.

Voskèat and Garandmak are native varieties that have been present in Armenia for millennia. During archaeological excavations at Karmir Blur, dated to 3000 BC, grape seeds resembling Voskèat and Garandmak were unearthed in karasí (Armenian amphorae), indicating that these varieties have been used for winemaking since ancient times.

Although both varieties are found throughout Armenia, it is the exceptional terroir of Vayots Dzor—with its high altitude, warm days and cool nights—that brings out the full potential of these grapes and produces distinctively balanced fruit.

Voskèat, which translates to “golden seed,” is considered the queen of Armenian grapes. It is a delicate, golden-coloured variety with small, compact, relatively thin-skinned berries and cross-shaped bunches. Garandmak, meaning “fat tail,” is one of Armenia’s most popular and hardiest grapes. It has greenish-yellow berries that are larger, thicker-skinned and grow in compact bunches.

Zorah’s vineyards sit at an elevation of 1,400 metres, marking the pinnacle of high-altitude viticulture. This phylloxera-free terroir is characterised by low-vigour, sub-alkaline sandy soils, rich in limestone and strewn with large stones.

The 2022 vintage followed a mild winter with significant snowfall that extended into March. Spring was unusually cold and wet, while summer brought warm, dry days. September featured warm days and cold nights, with day-night temperature shifts of around 20°C.

Harvest took place in mid to late September. All grapes were hand-harvested, with only the best bunches selected. Spontaneous fermentation took place in large, temperature-controlled concrete vats with no epoxy lining. The wine aged for 11 months in rough concrete vats, followed by a further six months of bottle aging. The wine is golden yellow in colour. On the palate, there is a pleasant acidity reflective of the high-altitude vineyards, accompanied by notes of citrus and stone fruits. The finish is long and complex, with distinctive mineral and flint characteristics. – Zorik Gharibian, Zorah
