Ragnaud Sabourin
The Craft of Time since 1850 from the vine to the eaux de vie, an uncompromised premium quality cognac.
Ragnaud-Sabourin is one of the most respected "boutique" houses in the Cognac region. Established in 1850, it is currently managed by the descendant "Dames du Cognac"—Annie Ragnaud-Sabourin and her daughter Patricia.
-
Estate-Bottled: Unlike the "Big Four" houses that buy grapes from thousands of growers, Ragnaud-Sabourin is a Propriétaire-Recoltant. They grow 100% of their own grapes, distill them, and age them on-site.
-
The Premier Cru: Every bottle they produce comes exclusively from the Grande Champagne district, the highest-rated "Premier Cru" of Cognac, known for producing spirits with the greatest aging potential and finesse.
The Product: VSOP Selection du Domaine No. 10
While the law only requires a "VSOP" to be aged for 4 years, Ragnaud-Sabourin takes a much stricter approach.
-
The "No. 10" Meaning: The number "10" on the label refers to the minimum age of the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend (10 years). This means this VSOP is actually older than many other producers' "XO" expressions.
-
Purity of Expression: They avoid heavy additives (like boisé or caramel) and do not use cold filtration, ensuring the natural oils and complex flavors of the grapes remain intact.
Tasting Profile (For the Consumer)
-
Aroma: A delicate bouquet of orange blossom, honeysuckle, and light oak, with a hint of mushroom (the classic "rancio" of aged Cognac).
-
Palate: Exceptionally smooth and buttery. Expect flavors of white peach, toffee, and apricot, moving into a sophisticated finish of ginger, orange marmalade, and marzipan.
-
Character: This is a "connoisseur’s Cognac"—elegant, floral, and precise, rather than heavy and woody.
