“Lafite has a soul, a beautiful, kind, and generous soul.
Lafite turns the land into a dream.”
Baron Eric de Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild: The First of First Growths
Ranked at the very top of the 1855 Classification, Château Lafite Rothschild is arguably the most famous wine estate in the world.Situated in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, the estate’s history as a premier wine producer dates back to 1234, though its modern era began in 1868 when it was acquired by Baron James de Rothschild.
Known as "The King’s Wine" since the 18th century, Lafite is defined by an inimitable elegance and a "peacock’s tail" finish that fans out with extraordinary complexity.Unlike its more muscular neighbors, Lafite is prized for its finesse, aromatic nuances of cedar and graphite, and an almost legendary ability to age for over half a century.
The Terroir & Craft:
Location: Pauillac, Bordeaux (occupying the highest plateau in the appellation).
Vineyard: 112 hectares of fine gravel and limestone, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
The Wine: The Grand Vin is aged for 18–20 months in 100% new oak barrels, crafted at the estate’s own onsite cooperage.
Investment Appeal: As a global status symbol, Lafite remains a cornerstone of the fine wine investment market, consistently commanding record-breaking prices at auction.
Key Labels in this Collection:
