Château de Chamboureau

Château de Chamboureau is a historic estate located in the village of Epiré, within the prestigious Savennières appellation of France's Loire Valley. Founded over 400 years ago, it has long been recognized for producing some of the world's finest dry Chenin Blanc. In 2007, the estate entered a new era when it was acquired by Philippe Fournier and integrated into Domaine FL, leading to significant investments in a modern winery and a shift toward organic viticulture.

The winery's philosophy emphasizes a "terroir-driven" approach, focusing on capturing the unique mineral tension and purity of the region's schist-rich soils. By avoiding malolactic fermentation, they preserve the high natural acidity and exceptional aging potential that Savennières wines are famous for.

  • Vineyard Practices: The 18-hectare estate has been farmed organically since 2009 and features south-facing slopes that ensure optimal grape ripening.

  • Signature Grape: The winery focuses almost exclusively on Chenin Blanc, which is harvested by hand in multiple "passes" (tries) through the vineyard to select grapes at peak maturity.

  • Key Terroirs: The estate includes parcels in renowned sites such as La Roche-aux-Moines, which produces wines with intense minerality and complexity.

  • Wine Characteristics: Their Savennières is known for its "nervy" acidic lift, creamy weight, and a bouquet that evolves from citrus and white flowers to notes of honey, quince, and wet stone as it ages.
