Doisy-Védrines in a few figures

The Doisy-Védrines vineyard covers 51 hectares. The grape varieties: Sémillon (80%), Sauvignon Blanc (10%), Sauvignon Gris (5%) and  Muscadelle (5%). The Grand Vin is aged for < 18 months in oak barrels and 12 months for the second.

Doisy-Védrines is located 45 km from Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Garonne, in the commune of Barsac, one of the five in the Sauternes appellation.

For centuries, Barsac has lived to the rhythm of wine. Château Doisy-Védrines, located on the noble terroirs of Haut-Barsac and neighboring Châteaux Climens and Coutet, is one of the oldest estates in the entire region.

The profound originality of the Doisy-Védrines terroir can be summed up in one word: Ciron.

Taking its source in the Landes, this small stream of fresh, fresh water crisscrosses our red clay-limestone soils with fine gravel, typical of Barsac.
In autumn, amidst the wonder of morning mists and sunny afternoons, the unique alchemy of the vine and the mite gives rise to a microscopic and capricious fungus, botrytis cinerea.

This “noble rot”, which determines the concentration of our grapes, creates the inimitable signature of the sweet and complex wine of Doisy-Védrines.

The Doisy-Védrines vines—an average age of 25 years—are carefully maintained and renewed. The harvest requires the expertise of local workers. It lasts 6 to 8 weeks, with up to nine selections to pick each berry at perfect ripeness. Vinification is carried out in French oak barrels, 60 to 90% of which are renewed each year.

Fermentation lasts 3 to 4 weeks, during which time the must is maintained at a temperature of 20°C. The wines are aged in barrels and racked every three months. Blending only takes place after a year, after selecting, barrel by barrel, the wines worthy of bearing the Château's name.  At the time of bottling, after two years, even in a good year, each vine plant produces no more than two or three glasses of wine.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
