Penfolds Cellar Reserve wines are alternative, limited-release wines that explore the innovative boundaries of viticulture, vinification and style. The 2024 Penfolds Cellar Reserve Chardonnay is sourced from Tumbarumba.

Powerful fruit, fine acidity, and maturation in old and new French oak barriques deliver a wine of great balance and complexity.

After a cool start to the season, the weather quickly warmed at the beginning of spring. There were no frost events and flowering conditions were ideal, being warm and dry. Apart from some early December rainfall, the summer was dry, and temperatures were mild, with no extreme heat. Chardonnay yields were excellent, and harvest was early and untroubled by disease. Overall, an exceptional growing season.

Food Pairing

You can enjoy fish pies, salmon preparations, creamy chicken or pork dishes, and mild buttery curries. Additionally, chicken salads with fruit and nut additions like peach, mango, or macadamia nuts are delightful choices.

Tasting Profile
nose
Immediately closed but given a swirl and some air this wine opens up beautifully. Lovely purity of fruit but at the same time shows great complexity. Lemony, citrus fruits and grapefruit pith hover over savoury nougat, cashew, and crème Brûlée with a light hint of sea spray and gun smoke/flint.

palate
A superb palate, very linear with lemon citrus drive and focus. The French oak is beautifully integrated and barely noticeable. A chalky, mouth-watering, juicy acidity runs right through the palate with a slatey/powdery phenolic grip to finish. A lovely Chardonnay delivering a wonderful length of flavour.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
