The personal story of Izway began during the 2002 harvest in France, but the story of our wine began in 2003 when we made one barrel of wine from a great vineyard in the Northern Barossa. We named it Bruce. This single barrel held the first 300 bottles crafted by us and was named after Kathryn’s father, who passed away the year the wine was bottled. This is the most iconic and personally significant wine that we produce. The remaining bottles of this first harvest are held dearly in our cellar. The wine is unashamedly and passionately Barossan, with power, depth, texture and structure. It to be consumed as a young wine or kept in the cellar for many years.

The Vintage
2017 saw a continuation of the stellar run of great vintages in the Barossa Valley, and although each display striking differences, all harvests since 2012 will stand the test of time. The summer was warm but not hot and there were no extended heat waves. The bountiful rain and cool growing conditions we experienced in 2017 presented us with fantastic yields and perfect fruit. With an abundance of fruit, this vintage of sBruce is crafted from some exceptional sites (25% Don Vineyard, 19% Harold Vineyard). In 2017 we had a record crop in the Harold vineyard, and it meant that for the first time the Bruce is a Barossa Valley & Eden Valley Shiraz.

The Wine
The wine is intensely aromatic pure and fresh. The bright red fruits flow into cinnamon, spice, clove and cherry. This is a classically high-toned wine, and reminds me of the 2005 release, which is still drinking beautifully. The palate is initially structural and spicy, with the added Eden Valley component complementing the Barossa Shiraz perfectly. After decanting, the wine evolves into a rich and textural beast, with silky smooth ripeness supported by fine, grainy tannin. A great example of how the neighboring Valleys can complement each other. This is the fifteenth consecutive release of the Bruce, an achievement that we are very proud of. This wine, above all others, tells the story of our journey in wine and the evolution of Izway. The 2017 Bruce is one for the
cellar, with ideal drinking at 2025-2030, although decanting will reward the impatient.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
