97/100 points - Antonio Galloni
The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002. Drink 2016-2046.

Overview
The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a highly acclaimed, rich, and harmonious vintage champagne (12.5% ABV) characterized by a creamy mousse, with notes of toasted brioche, dried fruits, and cocoa. Following a warm, dry, and sometimes challenging season, this, generally 50/50, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend offers a, velvety texture and, mature flavor profile
Excellent creamy white mousse which once dissipated reveals a pale straw coloured base wine with pale gold edges. The exceptionally fine bead showing great persistence. The nose displays great complexity and refinement with aromas of oily toast characters, baked bread, roasted almonds, yeast lees and citrus arising from the glass. The palate has an understated richness yet is very graceful and refined featuring flavours of citrus, oily toast like characters, almonds and of course yeast lees. Finishes dry and fresh with bracing acidity and a slight creaminess about the mouthfeel. Superb length with a long aftertaste of oily toast characters, citrus, almonds and yeast lees.
The immediate impression is of the mildness of the pure, airy, bright bouquet. A floral, fruity pastel tone then unfolds and quickly darkens into candied fruit, ripe hay and toasted notes, along with hints of licorice. On palate The wine’s opulence – contained and succulent, round at heart – reveals itself on the palate. The envelope slides and stretches, and the wine becomes more complex and edgy, silkier than it is creamy. The whole eventually melts into an exquisite bitterness tinged with the briny taste of the sea. The harvest 2006 was climatically irregular and, taken as a whole, hot and dry. The cellar-based ripening of the 2006 vintage was very slow. For a long time, the wine was largely dominated solely by the fruits ripeness. It was not until 2015 that the comprehensiveness and harmony of its first plénitude was finally revealed. Dom Pérignon 2006 is superlative, luminous and glorious. Its original generosity - ample and tactile - is enhanced by a clear structure that gives it freshness and precision.
Pairing Suggestions: Dom Perignon 2006 is a versatile partner to fine cuisine. It pairs splendidly with light seafood dishes, such as grilled scallops or lobster, and beautifully complements creamy risotto or mild cheeses. Its refined elegance also makes it a perfect choice for celebratory toasts and special occasions.
