90/100 Points James Halliday

Medium red-purple; the bouquet is sweet and ripe, with a distinctive mix of small, dark berry fruit and earth. The palate opens with ripe, soft, fleshy fruit before distinctly regional savory / earthy characters take over towards the finish; the parts need time to come together. Drink to 2010.

Tasting Note:

One of the true pioneers of the Hunter Valley region, Max Lake and his family began Lake's Folly in 1963. Making only 2 wines and concentrating most on their iconic Cabernet blend, Lake's definitely take the laid back approach to winemaking. Utilising traditional methods like hand picking, gentle crushing and open top fermenters, the Lake's Folly Cabernet is a lovely hark back to an old Australian 'Claret' style. The 2004 comes from a dry, cool vintage, resulting in a wine of true elegance and style and is tipped to cellar for more than two decades.

2004 Cabernets | Score: 92

  • Season – Very good growing and vintage conditions. Dry harvest.
  • Colour  Vibrant brick red.
  • Nose  Displays cherry, violets and some mocha coffee aromas.
  • Palate  Fantastic. Perfect balance and great fruit sweetness. A very classy, elegantly structured style that drinks so well even right now, but will age gracefully for up to 20 years.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
