2018 Moss Wood Chardonnay
Est. range:
Tax included.
The 2018 Moss Wood Chardonnay from Margaret River is a highly-rated, complex, full-bodied wine known for its balance of ripe fruit (peach, pineapple, citrus) with toasty, nutty oak, brioche, and spice notes, showing excellent structure, acidity, and aging potential, praised by critics as a benchmark for the region and potentially one of Moss Wood's best ever. It's rich and creamy yet precise, with flavours developing from tropical fruit and hazelnut praline to more savoury notes like grilled almonds and honey with age, making it enjoyable young but rewarding for cellaring.
-----
The Moss Wood property is ground zero for Cabernet Sauvignon in Margaret River being one of the first wineries to really get the local Cabernet right. Today it’s an all rounder, and particularly the Chardonnay has been starting to challenge the region’s best. It is always quite oaky and slightly old school but still a lovely drink.
This is a full-throttle Chardonnay with layers of pineapple and mandarin fruits matched by some serious oak. It’s also voluptuous – big, bold and creamy in a seriously textural style with buttery hazelnut praline complexity. There is loads of power and concentration to finish and is a crowd pleaser for drinking over the medium term.
Drink: 2021 – 2027
- Wine Pilot (Angus Hughson): 93 points; full-throttle, voluptuous, crowd-pleaser.
- Ray Jordan: Beautiful balance, fine minerality, excellent oak integration, very long finish.
- Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski): Riper and rounder than typical, with ample weight and richness.

Buying At Auction?
Your Questions, Answered
What do you need from me to get started?
We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.
How many wines are in each Lot?
You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.
Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?
All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.
How much is the Buyers' Commission?
We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.
What are your freight charges?
Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.
Is there a Guarantee on my wine?
Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
