EXCEPTIONAL PARCEL RELEASE
2016 TN: The wine exudes the vibrant essence of juicy blueberry, raspberry and plum fruits, along with hints of crushed violet petals. Adding to the layers of complexity is a French oak influence - used for the first time with this vintage release. This provides mouth-filling texture and an elegant extension to the palate’s length.
Palate
The palate shows considerable structure. There is much to enjoy now, with vanilla and liquorice root notes in abundance through the mid-palate and layering beautifully onto the back-palate and finish, whilst blueberry and ripe dark plums define the overall heart of the wine. The tannins have a velvety softness to them that is neither bitter nor over-firm, reminiscent of sweet plum skins and reinforcing the sense that this wine shall develop exceptionally well in the cellar.
The Pioneer
Our pinnacle Shiraz is named to celebrate the pioneering spirit of Bill Taylor; who had the conviction to do things differently and who demonstrated the fortitude to stay on a path to greatness. In the early days of the business, Bill was astute enough to recognise the emerging popularity of Shiraz. At the time, the plan was to plant most of the Clare Valley vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon but he insisted that a small block be set aside to also plant Shiraz.
Well, as we now know, his foresight proved to be very correct and a generation later, this kind of determination is present in everything we do at Wakefield Wines. So the decision to craft an exceptional Shiraz to honour that pioneering spirit was made. This pinnacle wine, The Pioneer Shiraz is yet another bold step in the Taylor family's journey to crafting fine wines.
It's made only in what are deemed exceptional vintages and in very small quantities. With our Clare Valley terroir providing ideal conditions, the intention is that this wine will not only rival the best in Australia, but stand toe to toe with the best in the world.
This pinnacle release Shiraz is crafted from the very finest fruit selection and is entirely estate grown and bottled on the Taylor family estate in the Clare Valley, South Australia.

Buying At Auction?
Your Questions, Answered
What do you need from me to get started?
We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.
How many wines are in each Lot?
You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.
Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?
All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.
How much is the Buyers' Commission?
We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.
What are your freight charges?
Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.
Is there a Guarantee on my wine?
Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
