Expert Review

Halliday Wine Companion - 96/100 Points

Anthony Gismondi (Gismondi on Wine) – 96/100 Points
A Cabernet Sauvignon–dominated blend (87% Napa Valley Cabernet, 13% South Australian Shiraz), it combines power and finesse. “Minty, smoky, earthy black and blue fruits melt into a river of oak and spice that continues…goes on forever on the palate.” Built to age to 2050.

James Suckling: “Intense and transparent purple and blue fruit… very layered and intense wine with very refined, creamy and chewy tannins… Full and very impressive.”

Penfolds (Winemaker Notes) – 99 Points
“A wine of phenomenal power and concentration… dark berry fruits beneath savoury layers of smoky, earthy graphite, charcuterie and subtle spices.… Remarkably approachable already. Drink 2021–2053.”

Overview

The Penfolds Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Of The World 2018 offers aromas of rich malt, bone marrow and a ripe berried core.

A complex dark-berried spectrum commands immediate focus and with further attention blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry can be teased out. A blue-berried wash and glistening film covers the palate with conviction. Viscous/marbled texture combines with suppleness and acid succulence. Respectful acidity tightens the palate, clenching/compressing a core of graphite and hazelnut.

The flagship of the Penfolds Californian release. Quantum is a Wine of the World that encapsulates a bold blending alliance. Northern and southern hemispheres bring prized cabernet sauvignon from Napa Valley and pedigreed shiraz from South Australia.

Wine Style - Red - big, bold, full-bodied

Palate - Blueberries, viscous and marbled texture combines with suppleness and acid succulence

Dietary Notes - Sustainable

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
