98 PointsThis is greatness with an Australian bent; a vinous benchmark that stretches the definitions of iconic Shiraz to levels rarely attained in our winemaking history. The fruit is sourced from the small five acre Gnadenfrei vineyard planted in 1958, owned and operated by the legendary Malcolm Seppelt. The French oak selected for the maturation of this wine is considered to be some of the finest in the world. Selected from the incredibly tiny and revered Troncais forrest, the staves are hand spilt in the French tradition and twice as thick as machine spilt staves. As a result of the extra thickness the barrels are able to sustain an extended maturation process, due to the tighter porosity that comes with the extra wood. The fruit is harvested in two separate parcels and maturation takes place in the new hand crafted French oak barriques for a period of 36 months which are stored in their own temperature controlled, ancient stone shed.

Totally opaque black purple colour with black dark purple hue. Magnificent nose showing both complexity and intensity with perfumed scents of black plum, dark chocolate and liquorice followed by some mocha vanilla like notes and a touch of spice. Spectacularly rich and possessing an awesome level of concentration the palate delivers an explosive mouthfilling flavour experience of liquorice, dark chocolate, vanillin confectionary, toast and spice all wrapped up in a sumptuous velvety texture. Incredible depth with exceptionally long and very persistent aftertaste of dark chocolate, liquorice, vanilla and toasty oak.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
