Professional Reviews:
James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion) – 98 Points:
"A sublime vintage for Hill of Grace. The 1998 is an opulent and expressive wine with extraordinary power and grace. Silky tannins and rich dark fruit harmonize with complex secondary characters, including leather, spice, and dried herbs. The balance is exceptional, and the wine carries its structure with effortless finesse. One of the greatest Hill of Grace releases of the modern era."
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 96 Points:
"This legendary Shiraz from ancient vines reveals a bouquet of kirsch, blackberry, Asian spices, and incense. Full-bodied and layered, with velvety tannins and remarkable length. It’s drinking at peak now but will continue to evolve for several more years. A stunning representation of Eden Valley terroir and old-vine intensity."
Region: Eden Valley, South Australia
Varietal: Shiraz
Alcohol: 14.5%
Cellaring: Now to 2035+
Tasting Note:
A beautifully mature expression of one of Australia’s most iconic single-vineyard wines. The 1998 Hill of Grace Shiraz pours a deep garnet with brick hues on the rim. The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackberry compote, dark plum, and mulberry, interwoven with secondary notes of leather, earth, black olive tapenade, roasted meats, and exotic spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet impeccably balanced, showing velvety tannins and a core of ripe black fruit, licorice, and mocha. A long, savoury finish completes a wine of depth, elegance, and pedigree.

Buying At Auction?
Your Questions, Answered
What do you need from me to get started?
We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.
How many wines are in each Lot?
You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.
Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?
All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.
How much is the Buyers' Commission?
We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.
What are your freight charges?
Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.
Is there a Guarantee on my wine?
Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
