96/100 Points

"There are about 500 cases of the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, which was aged in both American and French wood (one-half new). The Screaming Eagle of South Australia, it possesses great purity, layers of fruit, enormous volume and intensity, and at the same time, it is strikingly elegant and well-proportioned. This stunningly pure Cabernet tastes like pure creme de cassis intermixed with licorice and oak. It should drink well for 15-16 years, but who will be able to hold onto it that long?"
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 148

Unveil the opulence of the 2002 Shirvington Estate McLaren Vale Cab Sauv, a vintage that stands as a testament to the rich winemaking heritage of South Australia’s renowned McLaren Vale region. This exclusive 6-bottle pack offers a remarkable opportunity to own a piece of wine history, celebrated for its depth, complexity, and longevity.

Tasting Notes: The 2002 vintage exudes an intense bouquet of blackberry, plum, and chocolate, intertwined with hints of black pepper and vanilla. On the palate, it delivers a robust full-bodied experience, with layers of ripe dark fruits complemented by silky tannins and a long, lingering finish that echoes notes of spice and mocha.

Vinification: Sourced from the oldest vines in McLaren Vale, the grapes undergo meticulous selection to ensure only the best fruit is used. This Shiraz is vinified using traditional methods, followed by extended aging in French oak barrels to develop its distinctive character and structure.

Pairing Suggestions: This Shiraz pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as grilled lamb chops, barbecued beef brisket, or rich vegetarian moussaka. Its bold flavors also make it a perfect companion for aged cheeses and dark chocolate desserts.

Cellaring Potential: Already showing beautifully, this Shiraz can also be cellared for a few more years, potentially enhancing its already complex profile. It is an exemplary choice for collectors and connoisseurs alike, offering peak drinking through 2025.

5 Star Winery - Halliday Wine Companion

"The Shirvington family began the development of their McLaren Vale vineyards in 1996 under the direction of viticulturist Peter Bolte, and now have almost 24ha under vine, the majority to shiraz and cabernet sauvignon, with small additional plantings of mataro and grenache. A substantial part of the production is sold as grapes, the best reserved for the Shirvington wines." - Halliday

"Turning grapes into wine is a science. Making the wine special is an art. We have a consummate artist in winemaker, Kim Jackson. Kim's knowledge and influences extend from vintages in the Sonoma Valley in California to Nuit-St-Georges in Burgundy. Since 2005, she has been using grapes from our Redwind vineyard as her palette.

Our viticulturalist, Peter Bolte, has been involved in the wine industry since 1977, and his family have been farming in the McLaren Vale district since 1840. His care and expertise have provided us with consistent , high-quality fruit since our first crop in 1999." - Shirvington

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
