2019 Marchand & Burch Nuit-Saint-Georges

Pascal Marchand’s plots in Nuits-Saint-Georges encompass both the northern end of the village bordering Vosne-Romanée and the southern slopes near Premeaux. Vineyards in these areas express different character and build an attractive complexity into this powerful wine.

Powerful and strongly-built, this is a wine that confers on the Côte de Nuits its noble reputation of a sturdy character.

2009 John Duval Eligo Shiraz

Aromas of ripe berries and plums, as well as raisins and plum pudding. Some pastry dough here, too. Shows the warm January and February heat. The palate has a meaty edge with grilled beef and beef bouillon, as well as rich, dark and blue-fruit flavors. Plenty of tannins. A blend of 78% Barossa Valley and 22% Eden valley. 93 pts.

Pronounced creme de cassis, blueberry preserves and warm mulberry notes with an undercurrent of cedar, lavender, chocolate box, Indian spices and cardamom.  Medium to full-bodied and tightly-knit on the palate is has a vibrant acid line cutting through the dense fruit layers and medium-firm, grainy tannins to support a long and spicy finish.  

2016 Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz

The name of Armagh was bestowed by the original Irish settlers who arrived in 1849 and named the lush, rolling hills after their homeland. In 1968 the vineyard was planted by Jim Barry and yields less than two tonnes per acre. This is a very special wine for any special occasion.

Lavish levels of toasty spicy oak over blackberry, sage, dried mint and oyster shell savoury stuff, some latent floral perfume waiting to escape. It’s deep and full bodied, intense and purple tasting, thick grainy tannin, almost an ironstone sort of quality to them, fresh acidity, and a long tannic grilled meat and fig finish. Henschke Hill of Roses Eden Valley Shiraz 2018

Hill of Roses is produced from a mass selection from the Grandfather vines in the Hill of Grace Vineyard, planted as a nursery block in 1989 by Prue Henschke. The planting is known as the ‘Post Office Block’ after the historic Parrot Hill Post Office ruins overlooking the vineyard. These vines were a mere 12 years old when the wine was first produced in 2001 and while the vines are too young to be considered for inclusion in Hill of Grace, the quality of fruit from this selection has produced a wine that warrants a separate bottling and limited release.

Henschke Hill of Grace 2018, Hill of Roses 2018, Mount Edelstone 2018, The Wheelwright 2018 and Cyril Henschke 2018 will be available through fine wine retailers, restaurants and the Henschke Cellar Door and website from Wednesday, 3 May 2023.
