Charlie Melton

Originally from Sydney but now a Barossa icon, Charlie moved to the valley as a young lad in 1974 and now has over 50 years winemaking experience in the Barossa.

Charlie initially spent time as an apprentice to Peter Lehmann, becoming familiar with the capabilities of the region’s fruit before venturing out on his own to create Charles Melton Wines with wife Virginia.

2008 Charles Melton Grains of Paradise Shiraz 93/100 - $260

  • Tasting Notes: This vintage showcases a deep ruby color with a vibrant purple hue. The nose offers an enticing bouquet of ripe blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, complemented by notes of black pepper, licorice, and subtle hints of vanilla from oak aging. On the palate, it's full-bodied and rich, featuring layers of dark chocolate and spice, with well-integrated tannins providing a smooth mouthfeel and a long, satisfying finish.

2010 Charles Melton Grains of Paradise Shiraz 94/100 - $200

  • Tasting Notes: This wine presents focused fruit aromatics, leading to a rich, almost velvety mouthfeel. It displays fine tannins and is considered an age-worthy vintage for the cellar.

2014 Charles Melton Grains of Paradise Shiraz 96/100  - $180

  • Tasting Notes: While specific tasting notes are limited, the wine is noted for its rich and intense style, characteristic of Barossa Valley Shiraz.

2017 Charles Melton Grains of Paradise Shiraz 96/100 - $150

  • Tasting Notes: This vintage offers dark, sweet aromas of chocolate, vanilla, spicy fruit cake, and mocha. These lead to a rich and dense palate with a luxurious mouthfeel.

Buying At Auction?

Your Questions, Answered

What do you need from me to get started?

We will need you to confirm that you are over 18 (for obvious reasons!) and to open an account by registering on the site. This will include provision of credit card details for any eventual purchases. You will also need to sign that you have read the terms and conditions.

How many wines are in each Lot?

You will see the quantity (number of bottles) stated above the price. Please note that the bid-price is per bottle so you will need to multiply the price by the number of bottles in the lot to calculate the total price of the lot.

Can I cancel my bid if I change my mind?

All bids are final - please think before you confirm your bid.

How much is the Buyers' Commission?

We have an extremely competitive buyers' commission of 16.5% (GST inclusive). This will be added to the final winning price of your Lot at the end of the auction.

What are your freight charges?

Please see our Delivery Policy for full details relating to freight.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
