The personal story of Izway began during the 2002 harvest in France, but the story of our wine began in 2003 when we made one barrel of wine from a great vineyard in the Northern Barossa. We named it Bruce. This single barrel held the first 300 bottles crafted by us and was named after Kathryn’s father, who passed away the year the wine was bottled. This is the most iconic and personally significant wine that we produce. The remaining bottles of this first harvest are held dearly in our cellar. The wine is unashamedly and passionately Barossan, with power, depth, texture and structure. It to be consumed as a young wine or kept in the cellar for many years.

The Vintage
The Vintage
During the 2018/2019 growing season, the Barossa was affected by frost, strong wind, heat and parched soils, yet once the fruit started to arrive in the winery all these difficulties were forgotten as it was obvious that we were in for yet another great Vintage.
The lower yields resulted in deep, rich colours, fine tannins and high tone aromatics and the cold nights meant that the wines have purity, freshness and great acid balance. It will certainly be a Vintage for the lovers of powerful Barossa Shiraz, and the ripeness of the fruit is something that we are comfortable handling. The harvest seemed to flow effortlessly for us in the winery and the stresses of the build-up evaporated with every press load.

The Wine
The 2019 Bruce returns to a Barossa/Eden blend, with the cracking wine we made for the 2019 Harold used to ‘structure up’ the original North Barossa Bruce blocks. The wine opens quite shy and will benefit from a decant before use. Once the aromatics are revealed they are familiar for Bruce lovers, with coffee, cacao, star anise and vanilla all displayed vibrantly. The palate is dense, dark and ripe, exquisitely structured with a depth and complexity that can be attributed to the addition of the Eden Valley vineyard. The fine grain tannin initially lurks in the background and then evolves into an integral part of the wine.

Is there a Guarantee on my wine?

Under Australian law, consumer guarantees do not apply to goods purchased at auction - all such purchases are at the risk of the Buyer. We will always provide as much detail as we can as to the visual condition and provenance of each Lot, however this is done so as a guide rather than as a guarantee.
